  78. You can view this file with WordPad.

  80. The installation process can be customized by modifying the "mga.ini"
  81. file on the diskette. Examples of customization options include:
  82. default installation path, default driver performance switches,
  83. default schemes, etc. The file is self-documented. This type of 
  84. customization should be carried out by advanced users only.

  89. PowerDesk settings are kept in the Windows 95 registry, under the keys:

  95. Notes, Problems, and Limitations

  98. - Another MGA driver on the Windows 95 CD-ROM
  99.  
  100.   This driver is part of the Windows Driver Library (WDL). In the
  101.   Adapter Type field (Display Properties dialog box Settings tab ->
  102.   Change Display Type button), this driver is called Matrox MGA
  103.   Millennium, while the PowerDesk one is called Matrox MGA PowerDesk.
  104.   The WDL driver does not support PowerDesk.
  105.  
  106. - Windows 95 "display.txt" file
  107.  
  108.   Windows 95 comes with a readme file called "display.txt" containing 
  109.   valuable information related to display adapters.
  110.   Note that the remarks about the Matrox MGA adapters refer to the
  111.   Microsoft MGA Ultima/Impression driver, not to your MGA PowerDesk
  112.   driver.
  113.  
  114. - Adobe Type Manager limitation
  115.  
  116.   When Adobe Type Manager is installed, you cannot run the driver if
  117.   the "Advanced Graphics Acceleration Settings" is set to none. Note
  118.   that ATM is installed as part of Adobe Acrobat Reader. This is an
  119.   Adobe problem documented in the Windows 95 "display.txt" file.
  120.  
  121. - Monitor configuration when upgrading from Windows 3.1
  122.  
  123.   Take note that an old MGA.INF file created by the Windows 3.1 Monitor
  124.   Selection Program is still compatible with the Windows95 driver, but
  125.   will not contain any data for the 1152 X 864 resolution, forcing the 
  126.   Windows 95 driver to fail in 640 X 480 for that resolution. We then
  127.   highly recommend that you reselect a monitor with the MGA Monitor 
  128.   Selection property sheet as soon as you finish installation of this
  129.   software product.
  130.  
  131. - Monitors in interlaced mode
  132.  
  133.   Some old monitors such as the IBM 8514 and the NEC 3D do not support
  134.   non-interlaced mode in all resolutions. The MGA driver does not
  135.   properly handle interlaced mode under the Windows 95 monitor
  136.   mechanism, so if you own one of these monitors, please use the MGA
  137.   Monitor Program.

  139. - PowerDesk and localized versions of Windows 95
  140.  
  141.   When PowerDesk installs its special settings page in the Windows 95
  142.   Display Properties panel, it should grey-out the normal Microsoft
  143.   "Settings" page.  This has been tested under the languages we have
  144.   localized PowerDesk in.  With other languages, it may not work.  In
  145.   this case, DO NOT USE THE MICROSOFT SETTINGS PAGE. Otherwise, you
  146.   will confuse the MGA display driver, which uses the Windows 95
  147.   "Desktop area" as its VIRTUAL desktop area; rather than changing
  148.   your resolution, you will actually change your virtual desktop.
  149.  
  150. - DirectDraw and Automatic Power Management
  151.  
  152.   As stated in "Microsoft DirectX release Notes" dated September 30,
  153.   1995, A DirectDraw game might be unable to restore properly if it
  154.   is suspended by Automatic Power Management utilities.
  155.  
  156. - Video acceleration under Windows 95
  157.  
  158.   Microsoft DirectX is supported in this release of the MGA driver,
  159.   including DirectVideo, which provides faster Video for Windows
  160.   playback with programs such as Media Player.
  161.  
  162.   For an application to use DirectX, a number of support files are
  163.   required.  These files include DirectDraw system components,
  164.   DirectVideo system components, and updated Indeo and Cinepak codecs.
  165.   In order to facilitate installation and setup of DirectX, Matrox
  166.   has provided a DirectX upgrade package along with setup program on
  167.   our BBS, WEB page and newest MGA CD-ROM.
  168.  
  169.   Even if you already have DirectVideo and DirectDraw installed on your
  170.   system, we recommend you run the setup program included in the
  171.   DirectX upgrade provided by Matrox in order to update the various
  172.   codecs.  The MGA DirectDraw driver has been optimized for the best
  173.   possible video playback which requires the Indeo 3.2 codec version
  174.   3.24.15.03 and the Cinepak codec version 1.10.0.6 which are both
  175.   found on the above mentioned DirectX upgrade.

  177.   To start the installation of the DirectX upgrade, use the RUN function
  178.   from the START menu and type A:\SETUP.EXE (if you downloaded the 
  179.   upgrade and put it on diskettes), or D:\MGASETUP.EXE (if you have it
  180.   on your CD-ROM).

  182.   Note: ONCE THE SETUP PROCEDURE IS COMPLETE, YOU MUST REBOOT YOUR
  183.         COMPUTER.
